Chichester Roman Week

Chichester Roman Week

Discover Chichester's rich Roman heritage this half term

Chichester Roman Week is a 7 day festival celebrating Chichester's Roman Heritage, from Monday, 28 May - Saturday, 2 June 2018.

Chichester was first established as Noviomagnus Reginorum, which translates to 'New market of the proud people' after the Roman invasion in AD43. Their legacy can be found across the city, including magnificent features such as the Roman walls surrounding the city and the Roman bathhouse located in The Novium Museum.

Led by The Novium Museum and supported by Chichester BID, Roman Week returns for its third year and is set to be bigger and better than ever. Featuring re-enactments, talks, trails, guided tours, family activities and immersive theatre, each day will be themed around an aspect of Roman life.

We are thrilled to announce that The Novium Museum has been awarded a grant of £1,100 from the Roman Society and Roman Research Trust to support this year's Chichester Roman Week. The grant will fund a Roman re-enactment by Legio Secunda Augusta, which will be the highlight of Roman Week, to take place in Priory Park, on Wednesday 30 May. The interactive re-enactment, which will encourage audience participation, will include a military show and slave auction as well as a range of static displays such as a military camp and a field medicine tent.
