Museum Reopening Information

We are pleased to confirm that The Novium Museum and Chichester Tourist Information Centre have now reopened. Our opening hours are 10:00 - 16:00 Tuesday - Saturday. 

Entrance is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Booking online in advance is recommended. Click here to book your visit

We've made some changes in line with government guidelines to help manage our visitor numbers and ensure we maintain social distancing to protect you, our visitors, as well as our staff during your visit.

Our revised public opening hours are 10:00 - 15:00 Tuesday - Friday, and 10:00 - 16:00 on Saturday. Admission will remain free of charge, with donations gratefully accepted, but advance booking is required. Tickets can be booked online now via Chichester Box Office - Click here to book your visit

A limited allocation of tickets will be available on the door to allow for Chichester Tourist Information Centre drop-in enquiries.   

What can I expect on my visit?
  • On arrival, you will be greeted at a safe distance by our Front of House staff, where you will be asked to present your pre-booked ticket (This can either be printed or presented on your smartphone)

  • If you have not booked in advance, you may be required to wait outside until we can safely accommodate you in the museum, due to social distancing requirements. Please note that we will be collecting contact details for everyone who enters the museum building to support the NHS Test and Trace system. You can find out more information on this in our Frequently Asked Questions section below.

  • Hand sanitiser will be provided for you to use at the entrance to the museum. There will also be hand sanitiser situated at the museum lifts on each floor.

  • For your safety, and for the safety of other visitors and staff we ask that face coverings are worn in the museum and shop.

  • We are operating one-way circulation throughout the museum to help enable social distancing. Please adhere to this system and follow the arrows on the floor wherever possible. You can download a PDF museum map from this page.

  • Our museum shop will be open, but we ask that payment is made by card (or contactless device) where possible. 

  • The museum café is currently closed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

  • Although our exhibitions cannot be as interactive as usual, we will have pencils and activity sheets for children available in the galleries. Explorer backpacks are available to hire - please ask at our Front of House desk for more information. 

  • Our reference library will be open. We ask that any books that you look at during your visit are placed into the 'book bins' provided, where they will then be quarantined for 72 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
When will you be open?

We are open 10:00 - 16:00 Tuesday - Saturday, and 10:00 - 15:00 on Sundays. We are closed on Mondays. 

How do I book?

You can book online.  Click here to book your visit Tickets will be free of charge, with donations gratefully accepted.

Is my ticket for a specific date and time?

Your pre-booked ticket can only be used for your allocated date and time. This is to ensure we adhere to social distancing restrictions. Please note that the length of your visit will not be restricted, however we anticipate that most visits will last between 60 to 90 minutes.  

Are you accepting donations?

In these uncertain times, your help and support is more essential to us than ever. We gratefully accepted cash donations via our donation boxes within the museum, or by card at the front desk. Donations can also be made online Donate . We thank you for your generous support.

Can I visit Chichester Tourist Information Centre?

Yes, the Chichester Tourist Information Centre will be open. A limited allocation of tickets will be available on the door for drop in TIC enquiries. Please note that tickets from Chichester Box Office are available online or by telephone only (01243 816525) and National Express enquiries by telephone only (01243 775888, option 1)

Is the shop or the café open?

The museum shop is open, with payment to be made by card or contactless device where possible. The museum café remains closed.

Is there wheelchair access?

The museum remains fully accessible. While we encourage visitors to follow our one way circulation throughout the museum, our lift will remain accessible both ways for those who need it. Accessible toilets are open on our ground and second floors.

Will the toilets be open?

Our toilets remain open on our ground floor and second floor, including our accessible facilities. Baby change facilities are available on the ground floor. Our toilet on our first floor will be closed to the public.

What time is last entry to the museum?

Our last admission slot of the day is 15:15 (14:15 on Sundays), with a reduced visiting time of 45 minutes to allow for the museum to close at 16:00. (15:00 on Sundays).

What will be available for children to do?

While our museum galleries cannot be as interactive as usual, we will have pencils and activity sheets for children to complete during their visit. This will include our popular Mystery Warrior trail. Activity backpacks will be available to hire. We hope to offer some activities within the galleries over the summer months — more details will be published on our website and through our social media channels.

Why do you require my contact details?

In order to support the NHS Test and Trace programme, we are taking contact details (name and telephone number) for all visitors, as well as recording times entering and leaving The Novium Museum and Chichester Tourist Information Centre.

In line with guidance issued by the Department for Health and Social Care, we will keep your details safely and in compliance with GDPR legislation for 21 days before securely disposing of or deleting them. We will only share your details with NHS Test and Trace, if asked and in the event that it is needed to help stop the spread of coronavirus. We will not use your details for any other purposes or pass them on to anyone else.
